PENSION AND SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS

To enable war pensioners and social security beneficiaries to receive their pensions and benefits in time for Christmas, it has been decided to authorise payment to commence earlier than usual this month. The Hon. W. E. Parry stated yesterday that war pensions, war veterans’ allowances, and all social security benefits other than sickness and unemployment benefits, would be available for collection on or after Tuesday, December 22. Age benefits would be available one day earlier and would therefore be paid from and including Monday. December 21. Unemployment and sickness benefits for the weeks ending December 19. December 26, and January 2. would be paid in one amount in the week ending December 19.
