TURF GOSSIP

Withdrawals Vln d’Honneur, who raced disappointingly last Saturday, was accepted for in the Seymour Handicap to-day, but was withdrawn from the race at 12.50 p.m. on Thursday. Sir Gundi was withdrawn from the Suburban Handicap at 4.20 p.m. yesterday.

Bracketed Juveniles Mr S. Taylor, of Dunedin, owner of First In, trained at Mosgiel, also owns Hurry Home, trained at Riccarton, and the pair will contest the Pioneer Handicap to-day. Hurry Home is a black filly by Foxbridge from Merry Wdy by Arausio from Merry Jest by Absurd, and was purchased at Trentham for 210 guineas, and given to G, Ridgway to train. She had her first race last week and shaped satisfactorily. Bred for Speed

Inscription will have his first race, in the Pioneer Handicap, to-day. He is a white-legged chestnut colt by Man’s Pal from Endorse by Paper Money from Epitaph by Absurd from Eulogy, breeding that suggests speed, and Is being raced by his breeder, Mr J. P. E. Cameron, of South Canterbury. The colt was catalogued for the Trentham sales, but was not sent up. Has Proved Himself

Prince Shad, who brought off a surprise victory at the Grand National meeting, has had only one race since, at Washdyke in October, when, carrying surplus condition, he ran third to Dash o’ Dublin and Milton Abbas over a mile and 35 yards He is in two races to-day, and as he is one likely to act well in soft going, lie will not be overlooked by the public as was the case last August. May be Useful Guide The track at Trentham in October was heavy for both days of the Wellington meeting, and thq record of horses who raced there and are engaged at Riccarton to-day is as follows:—Winners: Soncy, Poutatau, Coronacc, Siglow, Tutcre, Kindergarten, Stairway, Islam and Gayest Son. Second place-gettcrs; King Herod, Gayest Son, Rakanui, Sea Spi. Damask, Stairway, Fairy Godmother. Third placegetters; The Champ, Lenardo, Stourbridge, Gladyncv. and Alcthea. A Favourable Prospect

Bright Fox is engaged in both the Seymour Handicap and the Otaio Plate to-dgy, and lie may be kept for the latter race. He Is a three-year-old colt by Foxbridge from Cometary, by Day Comet from Tiie Boyne by Mcriwcc from The Shannon by Torpedo, and is a half-brother to Surmount. Bright Fox won the Wereroa Hack Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Levin meeting at Otaki on November 21, leading all the way and having two lengths to spare at the finish. Bright Fox, who is trained at Ellcrslie by R. S. Dagby, was on hand at Riccarton last Saturday, but did not start in the Apprentices’ Handicap owing to a strong enough rider not being available. A Dunedin Pair

The Wingatui trainer, A. E. Didhain, has Court Dress and Coy in the Suburban Handicap to-day, but the latter is to start in the Seymour Handicap, and will be ridden by Didhain, Court Dress, in his previous appearance at Riccarton, deadheated with Lowry Bay over seven furlongs at the Grand National 'meeting. Since then he has been trained at Wtngatui, and has had two unplaced performances at southern meetings. Coy had a surprise win at Riccarton in August on a holding track, and as she is by Hunting Song she should do well to-day. Another by the proved sire of soft track gallopers in the race Is Milton Abbas, who on recent form is a decided possibility.
