PARENTS’ UNION

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Parents National Educational Union was held last night at the home of Dr. and Mrs Douglas Anderson, Armagh street west. Mrs Anderson presided and the hostesses were Mrs Anderson and Mrs R. Vincent. The annual report reviewed (he activities of the year, which included much patriotic work such as helping at the Welcome Club, at the camouflage netting centre, in the packing of soldiers' parcels, in the sale ot health stamps, and in knitting for the Merchant Navy and the Army. It was announced that Mrs John Stevenson had presented to the branch a complete set of the works of Miss Charlotte Mason, founder of the union. Two remits from the National Council of Women, introduced by Mrs A. K. Warren, the branch’s representative on the council, were discussed, and suitable action decided upon. Special thanks were expressed to the honorary treasurer, Mrs H. Wyatt, and the honorary secretary, Mrs L. C. L. Averill. After the business meeting a concert programme, arranged by Mrs R, J, McLaren, was presented by the Geary sisters (vocal quartets). Miss Annis Soenccr (songs), and Miss Beverley Crozier (recitations). Mrs E. McEachen was accompanist. Officers were elected as follows: President. Mrs Norton Francis; vicechairwoman, Mrs Douglas Anderson; vice-presidents, Mesdames Averill, L. A. Bennett, J. R. Foster. E C. Gough, J. G Hawkins. P. F. Mann. P. J. Overton G. Weston, J. H. Williams. A. K. Warren L. M. Wilson, R. Vincent. P. Wood, F. A. L. Cookson, Algar Williams, Misses J. Holderness and D. Govan; honorary secretary. Mrs Avcrill; honorary treasurer. Mrs H. Wyatt; executive committee, Mesdames Douglas Anderson, W. H. Clark, and Maurice Warren; delegate to National Council of Women. Mrs A. K. Warren, representative to Welcome Club Mrs Gough: representative on Selwyn House Board, Mrs Mann.
