OAMARU E.P.S.
NEXT FULL-SCALE TRIAL IN FEBRUARY
The Oamaru Emergency Precautions Service, at the monthly meeting, decided to hold the next full-scale trial during the first week in February. The Chief Controller (Mr J. C. Kirkness), and Messrs R. E, Dimick, H. E. Wedde, and A. L. Taylor were appointed a committee to make the necessary arrangements. The Information Unit recommended that an E.P.S. trial should be held before Christmas, preferably in the evening. when members of the unit would be pleased to co-operate. The secretary (Mr V. T. W. Sutherland), in a letter to the meeting, said the suggestion had already been conveyed to the DeputyChief Controller (Mr A. R. Tail) with whom the Information Controller (Mr H. E. Wedde) and the writer had had an interview.
The Chief Controller (Mr J. C. Kirkness), seeking the views of those present, expressed his personal opinion that there was hardly time now to organise a trial before Christmas. Messrs R. K. Ireland and A. R. Tait thought it would be better if the trial were left until after Christmas.
Mr A. Nuttall pointed out that the November and December ballots would undoubtedly necessitate reorganisation of E.P.S. personnel. Therefore, any trial should be left until the New Year.
