N.Z. SERVICEMEN PRAISED

RESOLUTION BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (P A.) WELLINGTON. December 4. Tribute to the Now Zealanders serving in the armed forces and the Merchant Navy was paid by the House of Representatives when it met in ope,, session last night, the following motion, moved by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), and seconded by the Loader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland), being carried unanimously: “That this House records its high sense of appreciation of the devoted and self-sacrificing services rendercJ to this Dominion and the Allied cause by those New Zealanders serving in the armed forces. Navy, Army, and Air, and in the Merchant Service, in New Zealand and abroad, and in particular it tenders its especial thanks to the officers and men of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force, whose deeds have won for themselves renown and everlasting honour for this Dominion. “This House pledges itself fully to support the men of the armed forces throughout the duration of the conflict, and reaffirms its inflexible determination to devote every effort within its power to the speedy at-

tainment of victory.” Mr' Fraser intimated that the resolution would be conveyed to our men wherever they were serving.

The House then went into secret session, rising at 1.10 a.m. to-day until 10.30 a.m.

After formal business was conducted yesterday morning, members of both Houses adjourned to the social hall for an informal discussion with the Chiefs of Staff of the services. This meeting lasted till 4.30 p.m.
