CHANGES IN BRITISH NATIONALITY LAW
(8.0. W.) RUGBY, Dec. 2. The British Government has decided that certain alterations in the law of British nationality are necessary for reasons directly connected with the war. and a bill was yesterday introduced in the House of Lords for this purpose. In particular, it is proposed to improve facilities for the acquisition of British nationality by persons of British descent serving with the armed forces of the Crown.
It is also proposed to amend the law so as to put posthumous children born abroad in the same position as they would have been had their fathers been alive at the time of their birth. The position of such children is particularly poignant in war time. It is further proposed to give effect to the pledge given by Mr Churchill on July 4. 1940, to facilitate the acquisition of British nationality by Frenchmen who have decided to take service in the armed forces of the Crown.
