VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON. December 2. On Thursday the Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) will leave Wellington for Auckland. His Excellency will return to Wellington on Sunday. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) has received advice that the King has approved the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Flight Lieutenant John Rae Hutcheson, R.N.Z.A.F., of Masterton.— (P.A.) Mr R. T. McMillan was elected unopposed as chairman of the reorganised North Canterbury District Council of Primary Production at its first meeting yesterday. Mr McMillan was chairman of the council before its reorganisation. Mr W. 0. Rennie was elected deputy-chairman. The Rev. T. W. Armour was yesterday elected Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery. The Rt. Rev. John Laughton, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, has been invited by the Christchurch Presbytery to visit the Presbytery next year. M. Charles van der Plas, leader of the Netherlands East Indies Mission and personal representative of Queen Wilhelmina, will visit Christchurch on December 10. when he will be given a civic reception. M. /an der Plas will leave the following day for the West Coast. He is visiting New Zealand for the tercentenary of Abel Tasman's discovery of New Zealand.
