ROYAL SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND

CANTERBURY BRANCH

The following officers for the coming year were elected at the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand last evening: President, Dr. I. L. G. Sutherland; vice-presidents, Mr W. E. Moore and Dr. R. O. Page; honorary secretary, Mr R. M. Allison; honorary treasurer, Mr F. J. T. Grigg; honorary librarian, Mr C. W. Collins; council, Messrs K. B. Cumberland. H. C. Brent, R. S. Duff, and Dr. O. H. Frankel.

Members paid tribute to the work done for the society by Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf. who died during the year. A memorial address on Dr. Hilgendorf’s life and work was read by Dr. Frankel. Reference was also made to the recent death of another prominent member of the society, Dr. John Guthrie^
