FARM WAGES

Sir,—A man with a family, working on a farm, receives a much smaller total income than he would receive in the armed forces. If such a man is successfully appealed for by the farmer or the Primary Production Council. I wish to ask if the worker’s income is built up to what he would receive in the Army? If so, who is responsible, the Government or the employer? The manpower regulations say that a worker directed to necessary work shall bo paid on the higher scale. Do those regulations apply to farm workers in their relation to the armed forces?— Yours, etc.. D. ROBERTSON. Rakaia, November 26. 1942.
