PATRIOTIC COUNCIL PERSONNEL

♦ R.S.A. REPRESENTATION SOUGHT It was an insult to the district branch of the Returned Services’ Association that it had not been invited to have representatives on the Provincial Patriotic Council, said Mr J. Borland when speaking at a combined meeting of parents of men in the armed forces and returned soldiers at Kaikoura. When matters affecting the interests and welfare of returned men were at stake, it was a crying shame that there were no representatives of the association either on the local or provincial patriotic councils, said Mr Burland. Ho knew of no body in New Zealand that would be of as much assistance to the parents as the Returned Services’ Association, and he urged residents to assist the association, Mr Borland’s statement was made in reply to remarks by Mr J. J. Mackle, who had stated that after fighting our battles for us. the men would not be in a fit slate to fight again on their return for what was due to them. He considered that a committee should be farmed to put matters before the Returned Services’ Association, especially about land purchases. They did not want to see again the position that existed after the last war, added Mr Mackle.
