ACCIDENTS

CAR STRIKER POLE TWO KILLED; THREE INJURED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, November 30. Two persons are dead and three are injured as a result of a motor accident in Auckland last night when the car in which they were travelling along the Great North road towards Surrey crescent struck a pole and went off the road. The victims were:—Myron Glennie Jordan, aged 41, chief boatswain’s mate, United States Navy, killed: Mrs Lillian Joyce Douglas, of Titirangi, a fractured rib and lacerated face, possible fracture of the right leg, concussion, and shock, killed; Mrs Merle Edma Coles, aged 30, of Herne Bay, concussion and lacerations, in a fairly serious condition; Frank Hulme, aged 29, a fractured jaw bone and abrasions; and John Wiese, rating. United States Navy, concussion and fractured ribs. ABDOMINAL WOUND DISCHARGE OF PEA-RIFLE A wound in the abdomen, which is . not considered to be serious, was received by Leslie Hockey, a gardener, of Cheviot, through the discharge of a pea-rifle on Sunday afternoon. Hockey was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital from the Cheviot Hospital yesterday. Hockey was fishing at Shag rock, on the beach between Gore Bay and the mouth of the Waiau river, when a rifle ,taken to shoot shags was accidentally discharged. His young son went for help, and a rescue party carried Hockey on a stretcher over seven miles of rough country. The mishap occurred about 2 p.m.. but it was 9.30 before the party reached Cheviot. CYCLIST INJURED While cycling on the Sumner-Lyt-telton highway yesterday afternoon, Brian McGill, a youth who lives at Lyttelton, skidded in shingle at Evans’ pass, and was thrown from his bicycle. He received severe facial and scalp wounds. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital.
