APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE

DECISIONS OF NO. 2 BOARD

Appeals by two returned soldiers of this war who sought to be released from the Army were among those considered by the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday. The soldiers were E. Laird and G. A. Holland, and in each case their release was recommended with the provision that they should report to the rehabilitation officer. Mr J. S. Barnett presided, and with him were Mr G. T. Thurston, and Mr S. L. Wright. Mr E. D. Thompson represented the Crown, and Captain S. Bowron the Army. The following decisions were given;—R. B. Rolls and G. H McMaster (A. H. McMaster), dismissed: F. C. Gosling and Cornelius Counihan (A. H. McMaster), dismissed: F. W. L. Davison, linotype mechanic (Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd.), adjourned sine die, reservist to serve in the Home Guard: G. E. Chaston, factory hand (T. H. Green and Company), dismissed; Selwyn D. McArthur, tractor mechanic (Massey-Harris Company, Ltd.), adjourned sine die, reservist to serve in the E.P.S.; H. G. C. Tallon, upholsterer (A. and A. F. Reay, Ltd.), referred to No, 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board for decision; J. A. Walkinshaw, butcher (J. Walkinshaw), dismissed; Philip Marsh, driver (T. E. Elliott and Company, Ltd.), service postponed until February 28; David Tither, tunneller (Public Works Department), leave for three months recommended; A. T. Cooper, litter and turner (Director of National Service), adjourned sine die; F. C. Eivers, farmer (Director of National Service), release recommended: P. J. Bellamy, tilemaker and designer (Ashby, Bergh and Company, Ltd.), held over; K. R. Hedges, teamster (H. V. Murray), adjourned sine die, reservist to do Home Guard service; R. E. Taylor, boot repairer, service postponed until December 31; W. G. Chappell (Wooff and Salvesen, Ltd.), adjourned sine die, reservist to do Home Guard service; A. T. Arscott, milk vendor, dismissed, reservist not to be called up before January 31; J. C. Sheard, electrical assembler (H. Walker, Ltd.), adjourned sine die, reservist to do Home Guard service; J. A. Holder, apprentice filter and turner (W. H. Price and Son), adjourned sine die, reservist to enrol in the Home Guard; J. A. Sedgley, master plumber (Vale and Company), adjourned sine die; R. A. Underwood, coppersmith, and H. Hemingway, sheet metal worker, adjourned sine die, reservists to do Home Guard service; R. S. Thomson, Y.M.C.A. assistant (Y.M.C.A.), one month's leave from December 27 recommended; C. T. Blank, farm manager (W. H. H. Blank), adjourned sine die, reservist to do Home Guard service; J. A. McQuillan, slaughterman (F. L. Wright), dismissed, reservist not to be called up before February 28; F. R. Youngman. taxi-driver, excused Grade 111 duties; J. R. McGlllivray. fitter and turner (C. R. Hawkins, Ltd.), adjourned sine die, reservist to do Home Guard service; J. A, Morland (J. Doherty), release recommended, reservist to join tlie Lines of Communication Section of the Home Guard; S. W. Ordering, held over.
