COLLAPSE AT GOOSE BAY
MR W. K. BULLEN’S DEATH The death of Mr William Roland Bullen, aged 64 years, occurred suddenly while working at Goose Bay on Friday evening. Mr Bullen, who lived in Christchurch, was staying at his seaside cottage at Goose Bay and was erecting water tanks of concrete. “The shingle was carried in buckets up a hill to the site of the tank, a distance of about 20 yards.” said Mr J. A. Johnston, contractor, in a statement to the police. "About 5.30 p.m„ when carrying an empty bucket back to the shingle, he collapsed and when I reached him he appeared to be dead. Mr Bijllen was working with me from 9.30 a.m., doing the same work. He did not complain of the work being too heavy for him and at no time did he appear to be distressed. It was very hot during the day. and both Mr Bullen and I felt the heal very much.” Dr. R. L. Withers said that at 7 p.m. he had examined the body of Bullen outside his seaside cottage at Goose Bay. and he was of the opinion that death was caused by heart failure. No inquest was held to be necessary.
