Dr. Gertrude A. Willis Morley, whose mother, Mrs J. E, Cummings, lives at Matamata, has entered the Royal Ar Medical Corps as an anaesthetist specialist, and holds the rank of major. She recently gained the diploma in anaesthetics of the Royal College f Physicians and Surgeons, the highest qualification in this brand of medicine. Dr. Morley was for two years house surgeon at the Auckland Hospital, and left in 1937 for England, where she married Dr. Malcolm L R. Morley, a New Zealander, who had been doing post-graduate study. On Saturday the annual Christinas carols garden parly in aid of the Wellington Free Kindergarten Association was held at the home of Mr and Mrs B. Sutherland, Karori, Wellington. :.nd although the weather was not favour able, nearly 3000 persons attended to hear carols sung by the Harmonic Society and Apollo singers, and played by the City Band. The kindergartens will benefit by the sum of £125. At a meeting of the Sanatorium Se r vice Society held last evening at the homo of the president, Mr A. Hazolton, Cashmere, a grant of £lO was received from the Mayor’s fund and a donation of £1 Is from Dr. I. C. Macintyre towards the society’s work. Letters were read from Miss Bates, matron of the Fresh Air Home, and from one of the children in the home thanking the society for gifts of clothing provided. A report of various needy cases helped at the tuberculosis dispensary was received from Sister K. Moloney, and it was decided to provide any further relief deemed necessary by Sister Moloney. Aria ngements were made for the buying and wrapping of Christmas gifts for patients in the sanatorium, • and the honorary secretary, Mr A. E. H. Christie, reported on a proposed gathering to be held at an .early dale in aid of the society’s funds. At a recent meeting of the ExRoyal Naval Men’s Association of Now Zealand, Christchurch branch, it was decided to invite members of the W.R.N.S. to become courtesy members of the association. The association has now been advised that every member of the W.R.N.S. serving locally has accepted the invitation. The lady editor of "The Press’’ gratefully acknowledges receipt of £2 from Mrs A, Hazleton for poor and sick persons, and a scarf from "E.W.’ for a man on a minesweeper.
