FARMERS’ SUGAR RATION
Sir,—On November 17, the Minister of Supply announced that arrangements had been made for morning and afternoon tea as for office workers to be extended to farmers and farm workers, and this would apply to farmer, wile, and children over 14 engaged full time on the farm, and permanent employees. When I applied to the local rationing officer he refused a permit for me as I am not engaged full time in outside work. Would you mind inquiring whether lam entitled the quarterly ration of 2\ pounds of sugar as stated in “The Press” of November 18? —Yours, etc., ANXIOUS FARMER’S WIFE. November 23,1942. * [This letter was referred to the Sugar Controller, Christchurch, who said: “Quarterly permits for 2ilb of sugar and Jib of tea are issued to each farmworker, and this applies to the farmer, wife, and children over 14, provided they are engaged full-time" on the farm. A similar concession is granted to permanent employees. It would appear that the writer is not engaged full-time on farm work and, therefore, would not qualify for the additional ration.”]
