VICEREGAL (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 26. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) left for Dunedin to-day after paying a short visit to Invercargill.

Flying Officer H. Worrall, who has been a member of the Wheat Committee for several years, and who is a well-known miller, has been granted temporary leave from the Air Force to assist in organising the 1943-44 wheat-growing campaign. Sub-Lieutenant Gilmour W. McConnell, formerly headmaster of St. Matthew’s Victory Memorial School, St. Albans, who left New Zealand as a sapper and has served 18 months with his unit in England, was released by the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force on his gaining a commission in the Royal Navy. Sympathy with Mr Q. M. Wilson in his serious illness was expressed by the Canterbury District Pig Council Committee last evening. Mr H. M. Peirson, acting-supervisor of the pig industry, is visiting Christchurch. He attended a meeting of the Canterbury District Pig Council Committee last evening. In a letter to his brother, Mr D. S. Mackenzie, of Happy Valley, Sir Ciutha Mackenzie, who is now in India, writes of “a wonderfully interesting journey to India from America —a 15,000-mile flight to all sorts of queer places.” Sir Ciutha Mackenzie mentions a pleasant stay of eight days in Cairo, where he dined one night with Mr T.
