t AUSTRALIAN LOSSES IN EGYPT The Australian Army Minister (Mr F. M. Forde) announced that the A.I.F. in the recent action against the Axis forces in Egypt suffered 2419 casualties, of which 619 were either killed in action or died of wounds or ■wore missing. Eighteen hundred ■were wounded. —Canberra. November 25. NORTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN The Foreign Secretary (Mr T.. A. Eden), making a state-r:e;-.r in the House of Commons The postponement, of a proposed broadcast by General de, Gaulle, said that an extremely critical phase had been reached i,; North Africa. “This is no tea; for discussing the arrangements which are being made in North Africa between Lieuten-ant-General Eisenhower and the local French authorities," said Nr Eden. The Ist Army, strongly supported by United States forces, was making its v.-pv eastward with the utmost s need, greatly helped by the attitude of the French and the resistance of French forces to the Germans. Mr Eden added a reminder that the North African expedition was under United States command.—London, November 25.
