MORE WHEAT CAMPAIGN

Sir,—A few years ago farmers, grew wheat on very steep country, but now cannot procure labour, and the costs are very heavy. The Hon. D. G. Sullivan promised the farmer a rise of for this season’s wheat, but since then the costs have risen enormously, and there is nothing left of the 4Jd for the farmer, so they need another rise. The Hon. J. G. Barclay has asked the fawners to grow 25,000 acres of linen flax, besides turnips, rape, swedes, mangels, seeds, grass seed, and about 25,000 acres of potatoes. I think this seed and potatoes would require almost 100,000 acres. How can the farmer be expected to grow 350,000 acres of wheat, when most of these crops are Brown on wheat November 23, 1942.
