♦ ONE-ACT PLAYS A varied programme, ranging from farcical comedy to tragedy, was presented by the Canterbury RepertoryTheatre Society to a crowded house at Jellicoe Hall last evening. An, Edwardian comedy. “Mechanical Jane, produced by Miss Marjorie Bassett, was played by Misses Edna Odell and Rose Reynolds, with Miss Dulcie Barraclough as the mechanical servant. Miss Nonie Enright was responsible for the production of Margaret Cameron’s play, “The Piper s Pay,” dealing with the pilfering tendencies of a society woman who making a collection of spoons. Those in the cast were Mesdames Edna Milne and Sadie Davies. Misses Barbara Gudgeon, Mary Thornton, Florence Nicholls, Edna Neville, and Joyce Ivimey. Eugene O’Neill’s poignant sketch was played by Miss Joyce Osmond Smith and Mr Keith Innes, and “Interlude to Diplomacy,” written by Vera Arlett, was produced by Miss Frona King and played by Mrs Lillian Pethybridge, Misses Dawn Kincaid and Bunty Brown, Messrs Charles Hobbs and Jack Henderson. Miss Bassett directed the productions, and Mr C. A. Inglis was stage manager.
