Clarence Burnaby, a porter, aged 36 (Mr A. J. Malley), appeared on remand on a charge of breaking a prohibition order. Senior-Sergeant J. Bickerdike said the Army authorities were prepared to take Burnaby into camp within a few days. "He will be remanded to November 25, by which time I hope he will be satisfactorily got into camp,” said the Magistrate. Mr Malley said Burnaby had been offered a Job in a wool store. He asked if he would be Justified in taking this job in the meantime. "No,, he will be in custody," said the Magistrate., ( . , FALSE WAGE ENTRIES The Inspector of Awards (Mr S. W. Armstfong) proceeded against Henry Montgomery Hobson, trading as the Little Duchess Cake Kitchen, on charges that between July 31 and September 11 he wilfully made false entries in the wages and time book respecting the wages paid weekly to Hazel Dobson, an employee, and that he employed her as a journeywoman pastrycook and failed to pay her the award wages. Penalties of £lO and 10s respectively were imposed. EMPLOYED YOUTH AS DRIVER The Inspector of Awards (Mr S. W. Armstrpng) proceeded against Mid-Can-terbury Transport, Ltd. (Dr. A. L. Haslam) alleging that between August 31 and September 20, the firm employed a youth l under 18 as the driver of a motorvehicle contrary to the provisions of the Motor and Horse Drivers’ Award. "These are difficult times for all employers. Occasionally for the sake of keeping the place going, there are bound to be minor breaches, and this is one of them,” said the Magistrate, in imposing a penalty of IDs,
