BICYCLE THEFT CASE

TERM OF IMPRISONMENT IMPOSED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. "Dishonesty Is becoming so rife among people earning good wages that to extend leniency even to first offenders would be to encourage it,” said Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M;. in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court to-day, when an apprentice welder, Sidney Hugh Bishop, aged 21, receiving more than £6 week in wages, was accused of stealing a racing cycle valued at £ls. A sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed, the Magistrate saying that it was impossible to grant probation.
