EiMPLOYMENT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN The Canterbury Education Board, which mot in Christchurch yesterday, dealt with a letter from the district council of the National Council of Primary Production which asked that the board should empower local school committees to arrange for the holiday period to suit requirements for labour needs in their respective districts. The board replied that the Government scheme outlined this month actually referred to post-primary pupils. It was suggested that the council should approach the Government for the release of sufficient men from the Army to carry out all necessary seasonal farm work. The board approved of the following terms and vacation periods in Canterbury for 1943; First term. February 2 to May 7: vacation. May 8 to May 23; second term; May 24 to August 20: vacation, August 21 to September 5; third term; September 6 to December 17: vacation, December 18, 1943. to February 1. 1944; opening day, 1944, February 2.
