Youths for U.S. Forces.— Mr Roosevelt has ordered the registration for selective service of all youths who have reached the age of 18 since July 1. says a Washington message. It is estimated that the order will make 500,000 more youths available for the armed forces, in accordance with the new draft law. The order was issued shortly after the Director of Selective Service had set in motion the machinery to bring 18 and 19 year old youths into the armed forces probably within 40 to 60 days. Protest by Portugal.— The Portuguese Government has protested to Britain and America against the passage of Allied military aeroplanes over Portuguese territory recently.—London, November 18. / Americans in Australia. —Mr William Slater, the newly-appointed Australian Minister to Russia, told the press in Washington that the American soldiers in Australia had made friends everywhere. They had forged an indestructible bond of Australian-American friendship. “My appointment is an opportunity to convey to the Russians Australia's great admiration for their courage and fortitude,” he said. — Washington.
