PROMOTIONS IN POST OFFICE
DEPUTY-DIRECTOR-GENERAL APPOINTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. The position of Deputy-Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, rendered vacant by the retirement of Mr W. R. Newall, has been filled by the appointment of Mr S. A. Ogilvie, Second Deputy-Director-General. Mr Ogilvie began his career in the department at Timaru. After serving in different capacities at a number of offices throughout the Dominion, he wus transferred in 1920 to the Chief Inspector’s office, Wellington, and two years later appointed to a senior clerical position in the Chief Inspector's office. Mr Ogilvie remained closely associated with inspection work in the General Post Office until 1934, when he was given control of the postal division of the Director-Gen-eral’s Office. He was appointed a divisional director in 1939 and second Deputy-Director-General in April, 1942. At present he is chairman of the deEartmental sick benefit fund, and has een a member of the Post and Telegraph Promotion Board since November, 1940. Mr J. Madden, who succeeds Mr Ogilvie, began duty at Dunedin and has had varied experience in the department. He was appointed DeputyChief Postmaster at Auckland in 1931, and later served as Chief Postmaster at Wanganui, Dunedin, and Wellington. He has represented the department at the Universal Postal Congress at Buenos Aires. He was appointed a divisional director in April, 1939, and has been chairman of the Departmental Joint. Advisory Council since its inception in 1940.
