♦ — The Minister oi Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb; returned to Wellington last night. Mr E. F. Wilicox, secretary of the Christchurch branch of the Returned Services' Association, left yesterday for Wellington to attend a meeting of the National Patriotic Fund Board. Advice has been received that Warrant Officer H. W r . B. Honey, of whom a photosw—h appeared in "The Press'’ yesterday, has been promoted to the rank of flying officer. He is a son of Mr and Mrs H. Heney, of Kaiapoi, and has been overseas with the Armed Forces for about two anc a half years. Flying Officer Heney, who is aged 22, was educated at the Christchurch West and Rangiora High Schools. Mr J. A. Manton. manager of the Internal Marketing Division at Christchurch, left for Wellington yesterday, and will return to-morrow. Greetings were forwarded from the North Canterbury District Methodist Synod in Christchurch yesterday to the Rev. W. A. Mills (of-Cashmere Hills) and the Rev. J. K. Watson (of Shirley), two members who arc now on active service. Mr Mills was also congratulated upon being appointed a ch-plain. Mr J. J. B. Connor, district offi'-er of the Transport Department. Christchurch, will shortly leave on transfer to Wellington. He will be replaced by Mr Jorry, of Wellington. Major L. R. Weblcy (New Zealand Artillery) has been promoted to be lieutenant-colonel (temp.). Other promotions announced in the latest Gazette are:—Lieutenants W. Davey and O. E. A. Fairbrass (New Zealand Corps of Signals), to be captains (temp.). Lieutenant S. A. Fogg (New Zealand Dental Corps) to be captain (temp.); and K. M. Darby (Signals) to be first lieutenant (temp.). Mr H. G. Kilpatrick, secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Workers’ Union, left yesterday fo r Wellington, whore a meeting of the national council of the Federation of Freezing Workers will be held.
