Nazi Decree in Holland.—Dutch quarters in London believe that the effects of Royal Air Force raids and widespread sabotage by Dutch patriots are the reasons for a new decree by the German authorities in Holland. The decree institutes a sentence of six months’ imprisonment or a fine of 500 guilders for anyone causing delay to the loading or unloading of ships or railway waggons, or delaying transport.—Rugby, November 15. Capture of Madagascar.—General Smuts has sent a telegram to Lieuten-ant-General Sir William Platt, General Officer Commanding, East Africa, congratulating him on the final capture of Madagascar. Lieutenant-General Platt has replied on behalf of all ranks of the East African Command, thanking General Smuts for the message and saying that the South African Army and Air Force contributed in no small degree to the success of the operations. —Rugby. Vatican City Broadcasts A suggestion that the messages from New Zealand prisoners of war in Italy broadcast over the Vatican City radio should be rebroadcast in the Dominion, was supported by the executive of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association at its meeting last evening. It was decided to forward the suggestion to the Dominion headquarters of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association. Pig Production On Waimate Farms. — A comprehensive paper about the place pig production should occupy on the average agricultural farm in Waimate County was read at a meeting of the Waimate Progress League. The report, prepared by Mr H. W. Mclntosh, Superintendent of the Canterbury District Pig Council, emphasised the profitable nature of pig-keeping when undertaken in conjunction with mixed farming activities. Figures giving the cost of establishment and maintenance of a 10-sow layout, and the carrying through of the progeny to bacon, were giyen, showing a total intial outlay of £320 and an annual charge of £276 13s 4d. An estimated production of 140 baconers of 1401b weight, sold at 6Jd per lb, would return £530 16s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £254 3s 4d.
