It is officially reported that American war casualties, excluding the North African campaign, total 48,956, in the Army, Navy. Coastguard, Marine Corps, and the Philippine Scouts. Of this total 5694 were killed and 3435 wounded. There are 1349 prisoners and 38,478 are missing.
