Red Shadow finished fourth in the Cup the year before he won. Under Suspicion At the monthly meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association a repo't from the Auckland Trotting Club drew attention to the running of L. F. Berketfs pacer Bulldozer in the Campbell Handicap, in which an accident occurred. Bulldozer’s behaviour in races had previously engaged the attention of the board, and it was decided to advise the stipendiary stewards to watch his running in future races. Though Bulldozer was not deemed to have been the direct cause of tli- accident in Auckland, the board at its meeting last evening decided to Inform Berkett that in coming races his drlvnlg and the running of Bulldozer would be closely watched.

TURF GOSSIP
Biding Engagements P, Spratt has been engaged to nde Wardress in the New Zealand Cup. C. T Wilson v/11l be on Atreus, but as the horse Is handicapped at 7-0 he will have to carry at least 71b overweight. Wilson will ride Monetary, from the same stable, in the Stewards' Handicap, in which Straight Bat will be handled by D. J. Thistoll. who won on her at Motukarara. Stewards’ Candidates The three-year-old, Tutere, who has won twice this season, (he only races tie has contested, was nominated for the Stewards’ Handicap, but it is not likely he will be required to take on so ambitious a programme, as there will be other opportunities to race him at the meeting. C, McCarthy also has Monetary m the Stewards' Handicap, and he is training on well. 1 "ha's! V Effort has done well since he won at Motukarara, and he looks a bettci horse than at any previous stage. He has not been hurried, and he is on the way to rewarding his owner for a patient
policy. It Is probable that he will make his next appearance in the high-weight event on the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting. Newcomers , . , . J McLean has a new horse under hj s care at Riccarton, a three-year-old colt by Paper Money. His dam, Parazel, is by Polazcl—Para, by Absurd. A two-year-old brown colt by Cray Circle—Wanda Robe, by Robespierre, is the latest addition to A. McMullans stable. Mauretania has rejoined the team and should be ready to race at Christmas and New Year meetings.
A Cup Horse Reports from Southland state that the New Zealand Cup candidate, Royal Lancer is standing up to his preparation in One style and all going well in the next few weeks he will be a very fit horse for the two mile race at Riccarton this month.
Brother to Whaekie One of the maidens at Napier to-mor-row is Oisuara, which is the name ol the sire, Arausio, spelt backwards. He is a three-year-old brother to Whackic. his dam being Mercian Lass, and like Whaekie originally, he is owned ano trained by his breeder, W. McKinnon, at Grcenmeadows. According to reports, there is every chance that Oisuara will emulate deeds of his elder brother. Freely Engaged The Defoe— Pollyana four-year-old. Fight On, seems to be well named. Certainly some hard fighting was expected from him in the nominations made for him at to-day's Avondale meeting, as he was- entered for six of the eight races on the programme, being omitted only from the hurdles and the two-year-old event. His owner was- not so hard on him on acceptance day. but left the geldin" in three races,, the Three Kings’ Handicap, Electric Handicap, and Nihotapu Handicap. Fight On has had three races this season and has been placed twice. Last season he won once in three starts, and paid a big dividend, He is a brother to the ukeful stayer Anita Foe. He comes from thfe-same family as Rosefeidt and Tortulla, two. New..Zealand Cup winners.
