THE POLITICAL SITUATION
Sir—For the essential attainment of full public support the Labour Government, for very obvious reasons, should have immediately resigned when war was declared, and thus avoided that unhappy loss of cohesion which has obtained ever since. The election issue would naturally have been on the question of whether or not a Government representative of all sections of the country would have been considered more desirable than one representing merely one section. Such an election should take place at the earliest possible moment. “Better late than never” is an axiom applicable in this case.—Yours, etc., . NEW ZEALANDER. October 16, 1942.
