CHURCH LOYALTY TO THRONE ■ -Delegates to the diamond jubilM st* sembly of the New Zealand Baptist Union in Christchurch yesterday, numbering 200, passed a resolution of W* alty to the Throne, and expressed their deep sense of appreciation of the spletH did example shown in war time by the King and Queen and the Royal house* To this resolution was appended the sympathy of New Zealand Baptiste i& connexion with the death of the DuM of Kent. , The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) will be asked to convey these sentiments to His Majesty the King. Members rose and sang the National Anthem, led by the new president, the Rev. F. A. Parry, of Gisborne; • The union sermon was preached W the Rev. D. B. Forde Carlisle, of TT Awamutu, who spoke on "Imperialism and Christ.” Church Union The assembly considered a report from the Church Union Committee ap* pointed in 1941 to consider a doctriMC basis for corporate union between the Baptist Churches and the Associated Churches of Christ. It was stated that no .official reply had as yet been received from the Church of Christ Union Committee, as that body has not held a conference this year. . . The committee recommended that the assembly' should reappoint its union committee, to receive any further representations from the Church of Christ. , , The finance committee reported th« the self-denial appeal exceeded last year’s giving, which, in itself, , was a record. The amount contributed was £5239 (an increase of more than £500). , i The assembly forwarded greetings to two of its chaplains now serving abroad —Chaplain-Major John Hiatusstone, formerly of Christchurch (now a prisoner of war in Germany), ana the Rev. L. A. Day, who is serving with the troops in Egypt. .. The following were elected to tne church extension committee: Messrs a. Nees, H. Ormrod, B. E. Jones, J. «• Carey, H. W. Milner, K. Edridge, the Rev. L. A. North (all of Wellington), Mr G. E.- Best (Hamilton), and me Rev. A. L. Silcock (Timaru).
