THREE BILLS PASSED BY HOUSE
NO OPPOSITION TO ANY CLAUSE
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 16.
The speed with which the House of Representatives to-day carried out its business enabled it to adjourn at 9 p.m. Three bills were passed. They were the Medical Advertisement Bill (which operates from January 1). the Women Jurors’ Bill, and the Reserves and Other La'.ds Disposal Bill. No opposition to any clause in any of the bills was offered, and in the case of the Medical Advertisement Bill, directed at advertising for the sale of quack medicines, the general expression of members was that the bill did not go far enough in protecting the public. To-day’s discussions were an anticlimax to the two-day debate on the no-confidence motion. Not a word of harshness was heard. The House adjourned until 10.30 a.m. to-morrow, when the second reading of the Finance Bill will be proceeded with. On this bill members have the opportunity to discuss all subjects in the political field, but Mr Fraser smilingly suggested when the House adjourned that, if the same progress were made to-morrow, the House would adjourn at 1 p.m. until Monday.
