PRICE OF NEW POTATOES
TRIBUNAL’S DECISION
AMENDED CHARGES ANNOUNCED
(P A) WELLINGTON, October 8. Recently the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. J. G. Barclay) indicated the prices which potato growers woula receive from October to February next for new potatoes, and from March to June next for main crop potatoes. In the interval the prices for new potatoes have been amended somewhat, says the Price Tribunal. ■ . „ The tribunal announces that prices to North Island and Nelson Province growers will be £35 a ton from October 1 to 15, £3O from October 16 to 31. £25 from November 1 to 15, £2O from November 16 to 30. £lB for December, and £l4 for January and February. Prices to South Island growers, excluding Nelson, will be a maximum ox £42 10s a ton for October and November. £35 for December, £25 for January, and £lB for February. In terms of these growers’ prices, the tribunal to-night issued a price order covering the prices chargeable by the grower, distributor, wholesaler and retailer for new potatoes between October 1 and February 28, 1943. The order provides the following maximum prices a pound to the public for new potatoes:North Island and Nelson Province: October 1 to 15, 6d; October 16 to 31, Md; November 1 to 15, 4Jd; November 16 to 30, 4d; Decemner 3id; January and February, 3d. Elsewhere, the maximum price will be 7d for October and November; 6d for December; 4Jd for January; 3id for February. , , Another order to be issued later covering the main crop in 1943, will provide retail prices of about IJd per lb in Canterbury and Otago, and 2d in shipping ports; ' elsewhere, plus a further farthing in country districts 'served by such ports.
