FUNERAL OF DR. F. W. HILGENDORF

Many persons attended the funeral of Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf yesterday. The Rev C L. Sparrow conducted services at the Anglican Church at Lincoln and at the graveside at the Spnngston cemetery. ~ . The pall-bearers at the cemetery were Messrs C. T. Aschman, G. F. Wright (members of the Canterbury Agricultural College Board of Governors), J. W. Calder, C. P. Tebb (college staff), E. W. Hullett, and Dr. O. H. Frankel (Wheat Research Institute), Represented at the funeral were fanners, millers, bakers, Canterbury Agricultural College (staff, board, students, and former students), the Wheat Research Institute, the Council of the New Zealand School of Agriculture, the Royal 'lociety of New Zealand, the Departm mt of Scientific and Industrial Research, and a number of other Government departments and public bodies. Many wreaths and messages of sympath ■ were sent.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Dr. Hilgendorf was carried at a meeting of the Otago Provincial Council of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. The president (Mr D. H. Cockburn) paying a tribute to the achievements of Dr. Hilgendorf in wheat research, said that his death was the greatest blow that primary producers had suffered for many years past.
