BOOK OF THE DAY
UNITED STATES ARMY
The American Army. By Harvey S. Ford. Allen and Unwin. 233 pp. (8/6 net.) In a book of this sort, intended to inform laymen rather than to instruct soldiers, it is equally hard to avoid sketchiness and excessive technicality. Mr Ford has overcome both difficulties in a survey admirably complete, connected, and clear. He has done Store than describe the present organisation, command, armament and equipment, supply, and services of the United States Army. He has. very skilfully, explained them in terms of the evolution of military science; and his exposition is illuminated with many concise references to its history, Loth in the statement and in the apa plication of seminal theory. Diagrams h|nd drawings assist the text usefully.
