The appointment of Mr A. T. Campbell as tutor-organiser (war-time) for the Workers’ Educational Association, as from February 1 next year, was approved by the Canterbury University College Council yesterday. The promotion of Captain R. A. Young to major is announced in the Gazette, Major Young was a territorial officer until the expansion of the Army following the entry of Japan into the war. when he was appointed to a staff position in the South Island. Mr E. B. Condell, who 1 has been on the staff of the Union Bank of Australia at Ashburton for the last 12 years, left yesterday on transfer to the bank’s audit staff. Mr Condell was treasurer of the Ashburton Returned Services’ Association and also of the Home Guard capitation committee at Ashburton.
The Christchurch City Council has nominated Mr W. P. Glue, chairman of its housing and town-planning committee, for election to the council of the Town Planning Institute of New Zealand. Cabled advice has been received from England by Mr and Mrs A. A. Cheshire, of Sumner, that their son, Sub-Lieutenant F. T. M. Cheshire, has gained his commission in the Navy. Sub-Lieutenant Cheshire was educated at the Sumner District High School and St. Bede’s College.
