Mr Condell was treasurer of the Ashburton Returned Services’ Association and also of the Home Guard capitation committee at Ashburton.

The Christchurch City Council has nominated Mr W. P. Glue, chairman of its housing and town-planning committee, for election to the council of the Town Planning Institute of New Zealand. Cabled advice has been received from England by Mr and Mrs A. A. Cheshire, of Sumner, that their son, Sub-Lieutenant F. T. M. Cheshire, has gained his commission in the Navy. Sub-Lieutenant Cheshire was educated at the Sumner District High School and St. Bede’s College.
