SEA WALL AT REDCLIFFS
TIDE WASHES OVER NEW SECTION The Mayor (Mr J. E. Tail) reported at the Sumner Borough Council meeting last night that, during the last week, the sea, with a heavy surge had washed over the top of the new section of the sea wall at present being built at Monck’s Bay, Redcliffs. The council resolved to continue the construction at a height of three feet. It was decided to advise the Municipal Association that the council was of the opinion that a conference should not be held this year. The Mayor reported that advice had been received that the present plans for air-raid shelters had not been approved by the authorities. It was decided to ask for further suggestions as to what form of shelter should be erected. Because of reports that a number of motor-cars, with two headlights burning, had been driven within the borough recently, it was decided to bring the matter to the notice of the traffic police. Complaints were also received about the speed of some cars on Monck’s Spur road. The Electrical Engineer (Mr A. A. Cheshire) reported that the average daily consumption of water was 266,416 gallons, against 209,067 gallons for the same period last year, showing an increase of nearly two million gallons (1,932,800) for the month.
