LIEUTENANT-COLONEL D. J. FOUNTAINE, M.C.
Promoted to his present rank at the age of 28, Lieutenant-Colonel D. J. Fountaine, M.C., of Westport, is one of the youngest soldiers in the British Empire to attain that rank. I, son of , Mr. and Mrs J. C. Fountaine, Derby street, Westport. A brother, Ray, is also serving with the New Zealand Forces in the Middle East, holding the rank of sergeant. j Colonel Fountaine left New Zealand with the Ist Echelon as a lieutenant, and served with distinction in Greece, Crete, and Libya, being awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous service in Libya. •
