A letter received by the Mayor o£ Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) from the Slavonic Council of New Zealand, in which the council appealed for his co-operation in the organisation of the Medical Aid Fund for Russia, was laid by him before the Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee when it met last week. “I think there should be some gesture from New Zealand on the lines of what is being done from Britain in this direction,” said Mr Hislop. “I would suggest that the committee make a recommendation to the National Patriotic Fund Board that a substantial payment be made in London for this purpose.” It was agreed that the Mayor make a public appeal for a fund, and that a recommendation should be sent to the National Patriotic Fund Board that £25,000 be made immediately available for the purpose in London, the administration of the fund to be at the discretion of the Soviet Ambassador (M. Maisky) in consultation with the British Government
