VISIT OF AIR FORCE BAND
♦ RECRUITING AND PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES To assist in several efforts for the raising of patriotic funds and in the recruiting campaign for the Air Training Corps, the Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force arrived in Christchurch yesterday. This band, which has. in the opinion of many competent judges, now achieved a standard comparable with some of the famous overseas bands, will have a busy programme for the next few days. Last evening it played at the patriotic ball organised by the Canterbury Rugby Union, this morning at 10 o’clock it will parade with the Christchurch wing of the Air Training Corps in a march through the city from Cranmer square. There will be a short halt in Cathedral square, where addresses will be given by the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) and an Air Force officer. This afternoon it will play at Lancaster Park, where the Rugby match between 'North Island and South Island Army teams is being held as a patriotic fixture. To-morrow afternoon the band will play on the archery lawn in the Botanic Gardens, and In the evening a concert will be given in the Civic Theatre.
