CONSUMERS OF BREAD

GREATER PROTECTION PLANNED STANDARDISATION OF LINES (P.S.S.) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 25. Greater protection for the consumers of bread will be afforded by new regulations which will shortly be gazetted, according to an announcement made by the Dominion Wheat and Flour Controller (Mr R. McPherson). He said standard specifications for bread had just been completed, and were on the point of being gazetted. Mr McPherson added that the new specifications provided for full 21b loaves of white, wholemeal, and brown bread. They would also have the effect of decreasing the number of varieties and shapes at present sold as fancy loaves, and would ensure that in any of the standardised lines the would receive the weight laid down in the specifications. Retailers of bread would be required to exhibit notices showing the guaranteed weights of the different varieties of loaves.
