MAGISTRATE’S COURT
♦ FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Lewey, S.M.) REMANDED Sydney David Sutton, a factory hand, aged 32, was charged with breaking and entering by night on August 18 the dwelling of Ethel Baxter, at North New Brighton. He was remanded to October 1. FAILURE TO REPORT ALLEGED Victor Harold Stephen Barton, a blacksmith and seaman, aged, 32, pleaded guilty to a • charge of failing to report to the Army when called up for service. The case was adjourned to the afternoon to enable inquiries to be made, and on resumption Senior-Sergeant J. Bickerdike said the Army authorities were satisfied that the accused was doing useful work as an able-bodied seaman. He was gonvicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within three years and to pay Court costs. TRAFFIC CASES Cycling at night without a light—William .Bartlett. convicted and discharged; Allan. Fields, 10s, Failing to give way to traffic on the right—George Bettle, costs only: Alfred William McConnell, costs only. Driving without licence—Edith Anne Coombes, ss.
