DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS OATS

PROPOSALS BY WHEAT CONTROLLER

(P.S.S.) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 25. A meeting between the Dominion Wheat and Flour Controller (Mr R. McPherson), members of the Invercargill Grain and Seed Merchants’ Association, and Mr A. L. Adamson, secretary of the Southland Council of Primary Production was held this week to discuss the disposal of the heavy surplus of oats in Southland, which resulted from extraordinarily high yields and heavy cropping. Mr McPherson gave details of- the results of the investigations already made and the estimates of the Wheat Committee’s grader (Mr A. W. Smith) of the quantities of oats of milling quality available. He outlined a scheme which he had in mind for ensuring that the millable oats would be absorbed. The merchants expressed ' satisfaction with the actions already taken by Mr McPherson and the actions to be taken. They expressed the opinion that there would be no difficulty in disposing of the oats which were not suitable for milling.
