PROMISES OP SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNTS REPORTED
Promises of donations of substantial amounts, including one of £IOOO, were reported yesterday at the ' luncheon arranged by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce to launch an appeal among city businessmen for further contributions to Canterbury’s patriotic funds. Under the organisation of the appeal, sponsored by . the chamber, firms will be personally approached and contributions solicited. The Mayor (Mr E. H. Other speakers at the luncheon included Mr C. S. Hammond (president of the chamber, who presided), Mr J. L. Hay, and. Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon. The luncheon was attended also by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr M. E.
