TIME FIXED FOR E.P.S. TRIAL
* FIRE-WATCHING SERVICE NOT LIKELY
The lime of the Christchurch Metropolitan E.P.S. trial on Sunday, October 4, has been fixed for 9 a.m., the Mayor and District Controller (Mr E. H. Andrews) announced yesterday. The chairman of the organising executive of the E.P.S. (Mr W. Machin) said an “order of the day" would be issued by the District Conti oiler at the coming week-end. At this stage it could be said that the trial would not this time take the form of dealing with a number of ‘‘incidents.’’ It would be more a thorough checking-up on personnel, equipment, arm bands, identification cards, etc. Movements of personnel and the time required for such movements would also be tested. Mr Machin added that on this occasion it was not likely that the Commercial Fire Guard would be called on. That would involve the establishment of a further period of continuous fire-watching, and it did not appear that this was necessary at the moment.
