* OFFICIAL FORECASTS (P.S.S.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 24. The weather forecast for Canterbury, Issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: South-westerly winds, strong and squally at times; weather changeable, with showery periods; temperatures cclder, with scattered hail or snow. WEST COAST The forecast tor the West Coast is as follows: Strong, squally south-westerly weather, changeable, with passing showers of rain or hail, but some fair Intervals; temperatures cold. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday morning was changeable, but the sun Ihone in the afternoon. Barometric readings taken at "The Press" Office showed a steady fall from 29.5 in at midnight on Wednesday to 28.95 in at 1.30 p.m. yesterday. The barometer began to rise steeply at 4.30 p.m. There was a heavy fall of rain about 8 p.m., with a strong wind from the south-west, and showers fell through the evening. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was cloudy, and there was a strong wind from the south-west. The barometer at 29.361n (994.2 millibars) was rising.
