THE COMPLAINING SPIRIT

Sir,—When men and women of other lands are enduring untold hardships and sufferings, and when our own boys are giving and risking so much, surely we should not complain because the coupon system prevents us from buying all the clothes we wish, or because chocolate costs 3Jd instead of 3d, or even (to turn to more serious matters) because some husbands have to go oversea instead of others’ sons. Let our thoughts turn to those who are sacrificing and giving so much, and our own grievances will tend to disappear.—Yours, etc., 1917 WAR WIDOW. September 21, 1942.
