PATRIOTIC FUNDS

Sir,—Now that we know the position in regard lo the "secretary and the Welcome Club, will the Mayor tell us if the other organisations providing recreational facilities (churches, Y.M.C.A., etc.) also furnish the funds for their own activities. The impression is abroad that the staffs, secretaries, etc., are paid out of the funds raised for general purposes.—Yours, etc., INQUIRER. September 14, 1942. [Mr G. A. Hayden, secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, to whom this letter was sent, replies: "The recreation huts run by the Y.M.C.A., Salvation Army, Church of England Military Affairs Committee, and Catholic Institutes in the camps are staffed by voluntary workers, with the exception of the permanent staff (at least one man In each hut), who are paid from patriotic funds. The Y.M.C.A. hostels, churches, etc., in towns are also staffed by voluntary workers, with the exception of the ordinary peace-time staff of the organisation, whose salaries are paid by the organisation themselves."]
