POSTINGS TO CAMPS

♦ ALL AVAILABLE MEN ASSURANCE BY CITY AUTHORITIES All men now available in the Christchurch military district for the Army have been posted to camp. This assurance was given officially yesterday. The men not available to posting to camp include thousands who have been “manpowered out,” a phrase now being used to embrace those whose appeals against military service have been upheld for industrial or hardship reasons. The hearing of appeals of men called in the sixteenth ballot in June have not yet been concluded by the boards sitting in Christchurch; and it is generally expected that an increased number of appeals will result from the draft of 35-37 years called up for service a week ago. The procedure in recent months in Christchurch has been to post to training units immediately men whose appeals, either on their own behalf or b> employers, have been rejected. The dismissal of appeals has been notified without delay to the authorities and the posting of the men to camps has quickly followed. Medical examinations of men called in last week’s ballot are proceeding, but no postings of the latest reservists will be made until an Army instruction is issued. No advice as to when the 35-37 years men, with families, will be posted to camps has been received. As the appeal boards hear eases and make their decisions, men become available for the Army. Requirements for the various (raining depots are known/ and when a batch of perhaps 40 men become available they receive official notice posting them for camp duty.
