PLOUGH MOULD BOARDS

Sir, —The chairman of the Mid-Can-terbury Primary Production Council, Mr H. C. B. Withell. is reported to have said that the council did not want blacksmiths to build up large stocks of mould boards, but to have supplies available for use when required. This would be very desirable, seeing that for more than 18 months it has not been possible for country blacksmiths to obtain any of the excellent imported mould boards in general use. Mould boards have had to be patched, and unless we get supplies soon the position will be very serious. You cannot go on patching for ever. The question of supplies of skeith blades will be as serious, if not more so. You cannot do anything with a skeith blade when it is worn down. The only alternative would be to use coulters, and there are not enough blacksmiths to make the numbers required, laid and steeled to keep them in work.—Yours, etc., COUNTRY BLACKSMITH. September 19. 1942.
