AHMED SERVICES APPEALS

LATEST CALL-UP MANY APPEALS EXPECTED (P.AJ WANGANUI, September 17. Many appeals by or for men called for service in the latest Gazette are expected. It has been unofficially stated that 60 per cent, of the last call up appealed or was appealed for. It was estimated to-day that on this occasion the figure would probably be 80 per cent. A big proportion of those called are farmers or workers on farms. Many others are in essential industries and many more in executive posts in factories, shops, and offices. Of 12 men consulted to-day, all were appealing or being appealed*for by their' employers, many of whom already have skeleton staffs. DECISIONS OP BOARD Men employed by freezing works companies are to have their services limited to a certain period of the year, according to a statement made by Mr J. S. Barnett, chairman of the Armed Forces Appeal Board, yesterday. The Army will be asked to release men now on special leave. With Mr Barnett were Messrs G. T. Thursston and S. L. Wright. Mr E. D. Thomson (secretary)' appeared for the Crown and Captain S. Bowron for the military authorities:— Messrs T.
